Have you caught the Spring Cleaning and decluttering bug, but aren’t sure where to begin? I hope these simple projects can provide a little bit of inspiration to get you going! If you’re looking to free up space in your home, Spring is a great time to tackle a few decluttering projects. We often feel motivated to throw open those windows, let some fresh air in, and let the clutter out. 1. Go through your closet If you live in an area that experiences all four seasons, you might have a seasonal routine of swapping out items in your closet. As you prepare to stow those bulky warm items away for a few months, try to take a closer look at everything. Are there pieces you never wore, or maybe they’re just not your style anymore? Reduce the volume and your future workload by donating these easy decision pieces to the local charity of your choice. People in need will benefit from your generosity, you’ll have an easier time swapping items later, and clearer choices when getting dressed. It’s a win-win situation! Ditch the unused paint, e-waste, and other chemicals Does a section of your garage have a load of old paint cans and other hazardous waste that keeps growing, and you’re not sure what to do about it? A simple way to free up space in your garage or basement is to pull out all those old, unused products and deliver to a hazardous waste facility. Many municipalities around the USA offer drop-in days in April or May. If you live in Rhode Island, check out rirrc.org for more information on what you can dispose of, and a drop-off option that works for you. 3. Clean out the fridge and/or pantry This is a great project for this time of year, as our tastes change to fresher, lighter foods. Use this as an opportunity to discard expired foods, take inventory of the cupboards, and use up what you have to make those last soups, stews, and casseroles of the cold weather season. Choose one small area at a time to reduce the overwhelm. I like to break down different sections of the fridge - condiments, dairy, produce, and so on, and like to wipe clean one shelf at a time. The same goes for the pantry cupboards - start with canned goods, go on to snacks, dry goods, etc. As an added bonus, cleaning out and inventorying your food stash will help inform future grocery lists!
Do you feel the itch to do a little bit of decluttering this Spring? Which area of your home are you going to work on first?
